Give Thanks

September 23rd, 2006 · 2 Comments

I was asked to pray for a lady once, she was pregnant and a little overdue, but above all more than ready to bear a child. I don’t know why I was asked, but I was. I was also maybe the hundredth person to make this request of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the behalf of this woman. Never-the-less I prayed, and sure enough later that evening she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The next day, again I was called upon to pray, but this time for a malfunctioning set of lights. These lights had not been working for over a month and no one knew why. Normally repairing electrical involves getting a screwdriver and taking things apart, but this time the first tactic that was tried was prayer. Honestly it somehow felt a little blasphemous to pray that the lights would be miraculously fixed, but I prayed and the next thing we did was flick the switch and they worked!

The question

So did God answer prayer? Or were these things meant to happen? If I asked you to clean my house and I came home one day and it was clean I would feel obliged to thank you. Does not the same principal apply to making requests of God? As in, if I asked God to do these things and they happened am I not obliged to say thank you?

I just want to re-iterate:

Praise the LORD.
  Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
  his love endures forever.

Psalms 106:1(NIV)

I need to thank God for the things he has done for me.
