Nov. 17th Weekly Recap

November 17th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I generally don’t write about what goes on here as I sit behind my desk in Spain. The reason, I think it might be boring reading. I don’t know if I am capable of presenting what I do here in an interesting way but recently a coworker challenged with that sharing about the work on a regular basis gives you more desire to do interesting things. So this is the first in what should be a weekly recap of what’s been accomplished here published every Friday just before lunch my time.

mmcmedia.org

The first thing that’s happened is I bought two new domains for our website, malagamediacenter.com and malagamediacenter.org. While this wasn’t a big or time consuming task, and while we really won’t ever use the malagamediacenter.com domain, this is important for all those who go to the address bar of their web browser and type the most logical address to get to our actual web page.I have been spending some time also with the copy, content and structure of the site. The more I use the more I understand what I can do to make it better and over the next while you should be seeing new pages popping up on a regular basis. One that I mostly finished this week is our page the our television series Gente Como Tú

Personal Correspondence

I spent some of this week writing personally to supporters as well as preparing a general update(1.1mb) for mass mailing. It’s really hard to write interesting stuff on demand so it really took me a while to prepare everything that I wanted to say/share in as concisely as possible. Anyway as Christmas approaches I do intend to continue to write some more personal correspondence and hopefully prepare a really special Christmas update (I’m thinking along the lines of Video), we’ll see.

And that’s about it, or at least that’s all I can show you for this week. Next week I get to start revising Asdika.org and the week after I am headed for Seville. Stay Tuned.Update: I also learned the spanish word for “pimp” it’s “el chulo.” Chulo is a form of the verb Chulear which means “to show off.” At first I thought that english had things good with the word “pimp” having only the connotation of “pimp” as opposed to “show off” or “pimp,” but then the MTV hit show “Pimp my Ride” came to mind and pimped really does mean the same thing as chuleado so I guess these two languages aren’t as different as I once thought. And in the end I am just happy to know that I am even able to learn the slang around.

That’s great, Jamie, to hear about your work on the web site. It is a very helpful way of keeping us informed of what is happening on the field.

Your Avant colleagues are also doing a great job:
