This week has been a gooder. Many some web projects on the go, thinking about a Malaga Media Center Podcast and making incremental changes to our site.

This week I started revamping our current arabic website. It just experienced a server change and the jefe here said it was time to move things to a more modern database driven system. But how do I configure an off the self, free, CMS and database to maintain those tricky arabic characters? That was the first challenge I faced, but it didn’t take too long to solve, just make sure all your text storage and display is unicode. The next step is designing a site in which will read in the mindset of right to left. At that is where I am at right now. The database is hooked up, pages and things are functioning, I just need to become a North African for a week or so of designing.

Last night we (the people of Malaga Media Center) celebrated American Thanksgiving. Potatoes, turkey, corn and pumpkin pie were in abundance and the turn out was really good. The evenings festivities including some sort of pilgrim hunt which involved finding pilgrim like things; a musket ball, a turkey feather, and to write a thanksgiving poem. It was supposed to be four lines in rhyming couplet but I am a lot more partial to the limerick. Here’s what I wrote about thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a really great timeIt really goes and makes me rhymePotatoes, Turkey, Corn and StuffAlong with football really roughthanksgiving is a really great time
I think I am a pretty gifted poet and writer, but then again, I’m pretty biased when talking about myself. And for the record I didn’t get to see any american football this thanksgiving, what else is new.

A few small changes have happened there. I spent a little time this week optimizing the database so that it’s easier for me to work locally and then upload changes to the server, before there would be a lot of character corruption that would happen in the process. I also added support for photo credits and pull-quotes. You can see them both in action at our latest story: My Ways are Not Your Ways
And that pretty much does it for this week. In one of these episodes I’m going to talk about a few special personal projects that I just finished, but until then you’ll just have to hear about them in the upcoming Christmas Edition of Musings and Upcoming Events.Hasta Luego.

Nice poem
It’s funny you wrote about the limmerick, an american friend just taught me last summer what a limmerick was and I totally forgot about it, we had a really good time writing funny limmericks about people
