Dec. 1st Weekly Recap

December 1st, 2006 · 1 Comment

It’s the first day in December, let the festivities begin! In my travels around Malaga I have seen a lot more, elaborate, Christmas decorations up then I have ever have seen at this time of year back home. So while I haven’t got a lot about Christmas in todays news, stay tuned for it as it develops. Anyway, here this week in review.

Reunión de Compañeros de Trabajo

In short; Team Meeting. Last Wednesday morning we had a good team meeting covering some details of how finances are going to work in the new year, especially in regards to housing, along with a spanish video report and some new details about our hospitality department. As it turns out, some changes in American land renting law are going to make it cheaper and more affordable for me to live here.In the current system I pay $510 dollars into a housing pool and any rent/utilities/comunidad fees come out of that. Which is just fine if you live on Malaga Media Center property. I don’t. I live in an apartment closer to downtown with some friends and my monthly costs of living there only total about $210. Yet despite my reduced living costs, there wasn’t an extra $300 in my pocket at the end of the month. Under the new system the support I raised gets paid to me and I go find my housing with said monies. I am really looking forward to this because the money of mine that I save in finding cheap housing, I actually get to keep.

Charlé con Los Que Me Apoyan

Getting in touch with supporters, I was working on this last week too, but I finally finished getting out an email to everyone on my list this week. December was looking like a really busy month for me and so I wanted to get out some (long overdue) thank you notes to people while I still had time in November. To those of you who did get a note, some of them may have sounded a little generic but I really did hand write every single one of them and every single word was intended specifically for you, and if you were expecting one and didn’t get it, it’s probably because I didn’t send one, sorry.

Asdika.org Otra Vez

I spent some time analyzing the current structure of Asdika.org and I am working on restructuring and redesigning the site. I am really excited about how this is going to turn out. I have some big ideas, but I really need to focus on what needs to be done and to get it done. You know incremental improvements as opposed to a really big hard project that won’t ever get finished.

CEAA Primer Congreso Andaluz

If you didn’t already know, Kirsten and I are off to Seville next week to be part of the audio visual team at the first ever Evangelical Christian Conference Andalusia. We needed to round up some cameras, rides and info on said conference and as things stand now, I think we’re ready. The camera’s seem to be in order, all the equipment seems to be working properly, I found us a ride to Seville that gets us there early enough (11am) and allows for us to pick up a camera on the way that we’re borrowing for the conference. So all that’s left to get there and set up.

A Bailar Salsa

I am much less rhythmically challenged. You should know that I have been out 4 times now. Thrice in a bar and once in an actual dance academy, I am still really surprised at how few guys actually dance. Men, and especially single men, the ladies are dying for a man who can show them how to step to a beat. Get out there. No ones going to laugh at once they see the line up of ladies waiting for your time on the dance floor.

Tengo Que Mudarme Pronto!

I need to move soon, as in this weekend. I heard this morning that I need to be moved out of my current apartment by December the 19th. 19 days. That’s plenty of time, right? Not really when you count that I am in Barcelona the 15th-19th and that we have a big video shoot here from the 11th-15th and that I am going to be in Seville from the 6th-10th, and that I am going at Casa de Maricruz on the 5th. That basically leaves me with Monday. This is a result of my roommate Joel, the lease holder is heading back to the US to get married.

So while the wedding isn’t until May the twelfth, he is leaving on December the 19th. This we all knew, we just didn’t think it would be a problem, as long as those that do live here still pay rent we should be able to have a month or two to find a new place, but apparently the landlord thinks different.I’m excited to see how this plays out. Come January will I still have spanish roommates, or will I wimp out and head back to the relative security of Malaga Media Center housing. The Lord only knows.

And that’s about it. The next thing you might see on my site is the Christmas edition of Musings, a Malaga place report, a new series I want to start on Cultura Canadiense for those spaniards who want to learn a little about Canada, or some other wild story that happens between now and monday. Until then, hasta luego!
