Firstly, Feliz Año Nuevo and Bendiciones. I spent the new year in two places, albeit not at the same time. I started the party here at work with a fun little treasure hunt but left early to go to the Church to experience the new year in a more spanish fashion.
At the church the evening kicked off promptly at 10:00 p.m. with a good and large supper. followed by a time of prayer and sharing that lasted into the new year. That was really shocking, I was expecting the twelve grapes to make an appearance with some non-alcoholic champagne and cheers quite promptly at the stroke of twelve, but I guess in true Andalusian form we celebrated the new year a little late, and in less traditional form no beverage even resembling alcohol made an appearance.
Afterwards there was a time of jokes and games. My time lost but I wasn’t that disappointed. The evening at the church finished out at a respectable three in the morning and afterwards I took the time to call a friend back home wish him a happy new even though it was still four hours away for them.
On the first day of the year I went to hang out at the beach and tan a little followed by an after new years party at the youth pastors house. All in all the celebrations have been good and I am very excited about 2007.
