Those inane details…

Seville, Spain

January 17th, 2007 · No Comments

After the Primer Congresso Evangelico Andaluz I caught a ride into downtown Seville and I must say, Seville is beautiful, maybe even more beautiful than Málaga just don’t tell my Spanish teacher I said that.

Anyway, the first thing that needs to be said, is that I only got to spend six hours in the city and the second thing was that these six hours were on foot after a week of intense recording on my feet. I was exhausted but determined.

Officially I was going to Seville to work at the Congreso and less officially (but not unofficially) I had brought a camcorder from work with which I intended to film the Baile de los Seises but as consequence would have it I couldn’t get away from my official duties on Friday morning how I would have liked to, and so instead I decided I needed to go to Seville and get footage of anything unique that I find. In those six hours I saw:

The Cathedral

I didn’t do a whole lot of Research but this particular Cathedral is one of only three of it’s type (Not including the baby version in Kansas City). It used to be a mosque which is why it has that minaret (Giralda) at the top and was part of was proud Moorish Kingdom that covered the Andalusian region.

Plaza de España

This plaza is among the most pleasant - and impressive - public spaces in Spain. This is an amazing Plaza, I don’t know what else to say, you need to see a picture of it and I didn’t take any because my camera was dead, so maybe this one will suffice.

The River

There is a lot happening along the river and on my way out of town I got to go for a good long walk where I saw people fishing, rowing, boating, doing yoga, selling rare birds, and simply just relaxing.

The Graffiti

While this maybe wouldn’t be a reason for lot of people to go to the city, I did notice a large amount of really good graffiti along the riverside walkways.

Also of note is that while I was there everything was under construction. They are putting a transit system in and all of downtown was a mess. And that about wraps things up. Seville is a very culturally rich city with a lot of sights to take in. I was sad that I didn’t have more time to see the city but at the same time, I was exhausted by the time I finished with the tour, only to be faced with the long way home.
