Those inane details…

Barcelona, Spain

I guess the first thing that you should know is that probably the most notable person to come out of Barcelona is Antoni Gaudi. Nearly everything that you’d want to see in Barcelona is a creation of his, Güell Park, Sangrada Familía, the Gaudí House, etc. As a matter of fact, probably the only things that you can see that aren’t his creation are Barça the soccer team and the old city.

The Rambla

This is a very unique walking path that runs right from the sea through the gothic district and the old city. You can find a number of good artists, performers and restaurants along this street. It’s not a place where I would spend a whole day but it makes for a really good walk by night or by day (just avoid during the wee hours of the night, I’ll share more about that on a later date).

Sagrada Familia

This is a large cathedral that is still under construction. It was designed by Antoni Gaudi and features some of the most unique architecture found in world and when completed it’s towers will be the tallest structure in Barcelona (There’s a city ordinance prohibiting anyone from building a taller building). In all honesty though, I found the museum on the construction more interesting than the cathedral itself, there’s just too much construction going on to really be able to enjoy it’s uniqueness.

Park Güell

Firstly, it’s worth noting that if you’re trying to get to the park via the regular city buses the entrance is not well marked and if you’re like me you’ll end up a long ways up the hill from where you should’ve gotten off the bus. That said, it’s totally worth the trip. In Park Güell you’ll find the world’s longest bench, the Gaudi House, and a number of other interesting structures.

I came in by the northeast entrance and what first met my eyes reminded a lot of of the Flintstones world. But a little further in the architecture changed to more classical Gaudi.

Gaudi House

Gaudi lived in a small house inside of Park Güell for a number of years, and while right now it’s not furnished exactly like he had it, it’s a very interesting visit, there is a lot of really unique furnishings in it.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuic-Barcelona

This is an amazing show to see. The price is free and it’s a very unique mix of water, lights and music.
The Dancing Water Show - 4

And that about sums what I saw in Barcelona and aside from getting robbed it was a pretty good trip.
