Malta

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Normally I don’t write about a whole country at once but I really didn’t have that much time to get to know Malta and honestly it’s not that big, the city buses are the same as the intercity buses! The only type of transport that could be considered hard to do in that country is crossing the channel to the island of Gozo.

Some interesting facts about Malta are: It’s population is about 400,000, it’s national language is Maltese and for currency they have the Maltese Pound, worth four Canadian Dollars, and I am also told that people on the island of Gozo don’t really like the people on the island of Malta. I am not sure why. That’s probably why there is no real bridge through the short channel between the two islands but only a ferry.

Another Intermittent Update

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

I will admit to be very intermittent in writing updates as of late, so here’s the breakdown from the beginning of April till now.

Semana Santa

Easter is a pretty big deal here in Spain and to celebrate, the people have these outrageously ornate tronos that take over a hundred men dressed up in strange Kuu Klux Klan style customs to carry, and for encouragement, a whole marching band plays while these penitent men carry these three or more ton monstrosities from their respective Catholic brotherhood to the main city cathedral. There are several of these processions daily during the week of the passover.

Easter

My Church in Spain celebrated easter a little differently from the rest of Spain. The Sunday before Easter we had a big service with song and drama (it was really good but I don’t have a recording of any of it) and then for the actual Easter they sent all the youth away to a big youth conference in the north of Spain. I hear they had a good time. In the meanwhile, I, along with the rest of the people at the Malaga Media Center had a big more North American styled Easter lunch. It was a good time of food and meeting missionaries from other missions and ministries that we had also invited. I think in total we were a rather large group of 50 people.

Some Travels

Brandon and Rebecca and I decided that it was high time that we got to know southern Spain before Brandon and I left for Good, so on Good Friday we went to Córdoba and on Easter Monday we went to Seville. You can expect to hear more about those trips later, for now I need but to mention that they were a great time away.

Asdika.org

It’s officially done. I know I have been talking about it here for quite some time and I am very pleased to announce that the new site is entirely live and being thoroughly enjoyed by all those who visit it. As for myself, I have actually seen so much that I am truly sick of it, but that’s OK, it’s done.

Brandon Left

And the next day I did the same. I am currently writing this from in the train between Madrid and San Sebastián. Peace.
