I never thought that I would embark on such a long trip all by my lonesome as I now have, but after so much solo time on the road here is what I can say about it.
The Good
-
I get to wake up whenever I want and I am never wasting time in the morning waiting for someone else to get ready.
- I get to pick where I want to go when I want to go and how long I want to stay there.
- I am constantly forced to meet new people
The Bad
-
I lost the sense of security that being part of group provides. Most places that I went were safe, but every now and again something came up that I didn’t post on the internet for my moms sake (She worries about me).
-
It can be lonely. It’s hard even for a very outgoing person to make new friends all the time.
The Annoying
-
When I was traveling by myself, every time I saw something really cool I couldn’t help but think Man, I wish one of my friends were here to see this.
-
New friends don’t equal best friends, it’s easy to meet new people, but I don’t always see eye to eye with them and that can cause unneeded vacation time tension.
The Verdict
My verdict at this point is the same as the opinion of the two French Canadian girls that I met in Belgium, traveling as a pair is best. Giving up a little of your own freedom for constant company gets you the best of both worlds.
